#010 — The Octane Effect: The New DeSo Nodes and Apps
Nader is convinced that the success of DeSo depends on the creation of thousands of applications and nodes. But he knows that for that, developers around the world need financial help to get started. This is why he created the $ 50 million Octane Fund and he invites developers with projects on the DeSo platform to apply for financial assistance.

Several developers have already applied and some have agreed to share a preview their of their projects with DeSo News readers.
DeSo Arcade : My Little Rocket
@DeSoArcade is a project developed by @Aikon. The objective for DeSoArcade is to be a gaming community website/app, in which people are able to discuss both the DeSo games, as well as other Web3 games.
Pay-To-Earn will be the central topic, together with the introduction of new tokens (Layer 2 DeSo tokens on a later stage).
The Pay-To-Earn model allows players to earn money as they play, converting in-game rewards into real money earnings.
In paid games, game assets are represented as NFTs.
This ensures that every element of the game is, in a sense, truly unique.
On the DeSoArcade dApp, people will be able to play games like @MyLittleRocket, @KingofHearts and many more.
The dApp arcade games run on a Blockchain network. Which allows players to earn real money and rewards while playing.
From a community perspective, Aiko plans to not only introduce his own games, other DeSo integrated games onto the website.
“Think of Gala Games,” Aikon explains, “but with social profiles and an integrated decentralized social media platform attached to it.”
Note: Gala is a new type of gaming platform, owned and operated in part by its players. Players earn Gala Tokens as they play and use them to decide the future of the game.
My Little Rocket game (www.mylittlerocket.com) — is currently in the development phase and should be released in winter of 2021.
This game will be a side-scrolling shoot’em’up, which will give the player a sense of nostalgia for Gradius * and Type-R.
* Gradius is a side-scrolling shooter video game. The player maneuvers a spaceship known as the Vic Viper which must defend itself against the various alien enemies.
The game will have two modes:
- Freeplay: for those who do not have the My Little Rocket NFTs, they’ll be able to sign up for a free NFT, which will grow in strength through gaining XP.
- NFT P2E: Those who have a My Little Rocket NFT, or an NFT of one of the collaboration partners (not yet announced), can play in the P2E mode where they get MiniDeSo for achievements.
Scam Hunters
Scam Hunters United (SHU) is a project by James D Armstrong (@JDArmstrong) and Chris P (@BitDads), based on scammer hunting.
The goal of SHU is to bring scam hunters together and collect and share data, also giving users a hub to research all available information before purchasing an NFT or speculating on Creator Coins..
The Board of Directors of SHU will have 5 members. They will vote on the direction of SHU during the construction phases.
It will be a non-profit community service that will offer:
A reporting form to inform SHU of suspect accounts.
A Red List which will comprise of confirmed scammers/rugpullers and art fraud/thieves
Amber list will comprise of accounts reported as suspect pending investigation
Green List which will comprise of SHU verified accounts after strict assessment criteria are met.
« We will be looking at working with scam hunters to create a united and organised front against the scammers. Who are also organised, and networked. », says James.
« We will be looking to automate much of our tasks and community information.
We will also look introducing a Scam Hunters code of conduct and a registry of SHU approved scam hunters who will be issued a badge for their profile. This is to reduce the bad actors, the trolls and scammers pretending to be a scam hunter in attempt to ruin someones reputation. Also to garner trust amongst the community. »
SHU will also be introducing short instructional interactive modules to help the community identify scammers.
« Then we plan to put things like Rug Pull insurance and Rug Pull protection in place, », says James.
« Scam Hunters United will not have a creator coin. As this isn’t being done for any reason other than to unite community and scam hunters in the fight against scammers. »
Accounts managed collectively by several owners
@CloutMegazord account is a DeSo account (private key) shared between several owners. Zords are co-owners of a megazord account. Each Zord has its own part of the megazord account seed phrase. This guarantees consensus between co-owners during decision-making around account activities.
The possibilities for application are very wide. These are wallets, projects with joint control of the FR, charitable activities, giveaways, accounts for combining the reputation of different creators, even something like a DAO.
Currently, what actions can a megazord do?
At the moment, using a megazord account, you can perform the following actions:
- Create DeSo Public Key
- Send DESOs
- Send Creator Coins
- Update Profile (set/change Username, Avatar, Description, FR)
- Re-Clout
Actions that they are planning to add next:
- Buy / Sell Creator Coins
- Create posts
- Mint NFT
- Buy / Sell NFTs
What are the fees charged by CloutMegazord for individual transactions?
The service charges a 1.5% fee of transaction amount for each individual asset-related transaction
Can other zords sign a transaction without my consent?
It will depend on the settings chosen for the shared account. You can choose how many co-owners must be present. For example, 2 of 2, or 2 of 3, or 3 of 3, etc.
« If we receive funds, », says @transhumanist, « we will try to make multisig accounts an integral financial and cultural part of DeSo blockchain. The goal is to make CloutMegazord a standard for types of cooperation that require a joint account. »

A node dedicated to musicians and their fans
@Audionode helps artists grow their popularity on the DeSo blockchain by providing them with a dedicated platform where they can develop a whole new way of connecting with their fan base.
All musicians on the platform go through a verification process which ensures that all accounts are legitimate.
Musicians have the possibility of creating NFTs for their fans, to which they can associate bonuses such as discounts on downloads of songs, signed vinyls, bonus songs, etc.
Currently AudioNode allows artists to attach bios, social media links, tour dates and more to their coin information. Fans benefit from viewing a snapshot of coin and NFT stats for musicians on DeSo, while taking advantage of our verification process which ensures accounts are valid. Eventually artists will be able to mint NFTs directly through AudioNode, and fans will be able to buy DeSo and trade NFTs and coins without leaving the AudioNode site.
Who will be able to receive financial assistance from the Octane Fund?
Nader explained that be considered for this funding, you must ideally build a demo that uses the DeSo blockchain in some way. He said the Octane fund will also help existing companies that are considering integrating DeSo features into their product.
Some members raised concerns about the conditions for the allocation of such funding.
« In order for projects to be successful past the idea and development stages, they need to have some sort of business plan for, use of the initial funds and generating revenue, which includes, among other things marketing considerations for creating and growing a user base, so that they can continue building and improving their projects after the initial seed money is gone. « To that end, » says Sandirose, « I would love to see the Octane Fund set up an advisory team of both tech and business professionals to help guide and mentor project teams though all of these important details. It’s a waste of money if platforms are developed and then abandoned because they can’t make money. That doesn’t help the ecosystem and in fact, can be harmful. I think we all know how many BitClout projects have been started in the last 6 months that had a lot of hype in the first 6 hours but tanked shortly after when those running the projects realized how little money they would make for their efforts. »
« I am also hoping that the Octane Fund seeks out and encourages diversity of the projects they fund and that we don’t end up with 100 nodes that effectively look and function like Bitclout with just a few variations in features. »

I would add that:
- Collecting FR & Raising CoinPrice Are Not A Business Model.
- Funding from the octane fund should never be used to raise coin price.
- Getting funding should come with some clear conditions which will avoid rugpulls because a project getting funding could result in people aping in and getting burned. »
